Approach
Though every project demands a unique application of tools and methods, each follows a set of principles and beliefs derived from my experience
WHAT I BELIEVE
Innovation is a continuous loop of divergence & convergence, ever widening and narrowing the aperture to find the ideal product market fit
AND TO BE SUCCESSFUL…
Balance insight and iteration.
Don’t over-index on eitherMake it now.
Build today, create a roadmap for tomorrowSolve real, addressable, feasible problems. Any idea without a genuine human need, a viable business case and a way to execute it, will fail
MY TOOLKIT
I use a variety of tools for conducting research and designing business strategies- Here are a just a few:
Contextual Observations
Observing and even participating in user activities to understand a problem helps separate hypothetical activities from real world behaviors
In-Depth Interviews
Aided by stimuli, 1:1 user interviews are a core method for understanding user attitudes, needs and uncovering latent knowledge
Digital Prototyping
Building and testing prototypes from B&W wireframes to high fidelity demos is an effective way to confirm needs and evaluate ability to meet them
Quantitative Surveys
Conducting surveys with recruited participants, or through real world landing pages can validate and scale insights derived from earlier stage research and rank the importance of hypothesized features
Service Pilots
Building and testing hypotheses with real customers is the best way to get feedback on a new business concept and can be done at multiple fidelities from cardboard concepts, to full pilot launches
Journey Mapping
Mapping user experiences to a sequential framework reveals opportunities by illuminating friction and pain points in their current experience
JTBD
Jobs To Be Done is one of many helpful frameworks I employ for illustrating the key outcomes users need to achieve in a product experience
Collaborative Workshops
No amount of insight eliminates the need for stakeholder buy-in. I design and lead workshops that bring product teams and executives into the work, making it their own
